During a recent visit to St. Pancras International, one of our chauffeurs witnessed a moment that perfectly captured the character of London.
Near the Eurostar departures stands a Yamaha U3 upright piano. It’s not hidden or restricted—it is open to anyone who wants to play.
Sir Elton John donated the piano in 2016 after a surprise performance in the concourse.
He left it with a handwritten message: “Enjoy this piano. It’s a gift. Love, Elton John.”
Since then, it has become a fixture of the station. Commuters, travellers, and musicians stop to play it every day, turning the space into something more than a transit point.
During the drop-off, we heard a few simple notes from a passerby. There was no stage, no spotlight—just someone making music. It was brief but sincere.
Watch the moment here:
St. Pancras continues to surprise. Among the movement and noise, this one piano adds a layer of warmth and spontaneity that reminds us of what public spaces can offer.
