Wimbledon Transport Guide 2026: How to Get There (and Back) Without the Stress

Every year, I speak with clients who sorted their Wimbledon tickets months in advance and left the transport as an afterthought.

1. Why the tube and train can wear you out before the first serve

The standard advice is to take the District Line to Southfields — and it works. But it has friction.

The issue is less the route than the conditions: large crowds, hot carriages, the walk in formal attire or carrying a hamper through SW19 in July. By the time you arrive at the gate, you have already spent a fair amount of energy.

The journey home is worse. After a full day at the courts, you rejoin the same crowds, the same heat, the same wait for a carriage — competing with everyone who had the same idea about leaving at the same time. Many of our clients tried public transport once and decided they would rather not repeat it.

2. The truth about driving and parking near the All England Club

Merton Council enforces strict parking restrictions across Wimbledon Village, SW19, and the surrounding residential network throughout the entire fortnight of the Championships. Key roads, including Church Road, Somerset Road, and most streets within two miles of the All England Club, are subject to restrictions from as early as 7 am until 11.30 pm every day. On some roads, the restriction runs to midnight.

Street parking near the grounds is not a realistic option. The official car parks are pre-booked, limited, and must be arranged well in advance. Church Road itself is partially closed during the Championships to manage the volume of arrivals.

One detail worth knowing if you are using any transport other than a pre-booked car: apps like Uber and Bolt are prohibited from passing through the Church Road closure and must use designated drop-off areas on Marryat Road and Victoria Drive. A pre-booked private chauffeur is different — the dedicated pick-up and drop-off point for pre-booked private cars is the Guest Arrival Hub. This is a meaningful practical difference if you want to arrive or leave as smoothly as possible, particularly on busy match days.

3. Travelling to Wimbledon as a group? Here's how multi-stop collections work

One of the most common requests we receive around Wimbledon is from groups — a party of four to six friends who have tickets for the same day, live in different parts of Berkshire or the Home Counties, and want to travel together. Getting everyone into London and out to SW19 involves multiple legs and a fair amount of coordination, especially if your group includes picnic hampers, overnight bags, or older guests.

The practical solution is a single vehicle. Our Mercedes V-Class seats up to six passengers with full luggage space, and multi-stop collection routes are arranged at the point of booking. We confirm the collection sequence with you, whether that is Windsor, Ascot, Maidenhead, Bracknell, or any combination across Berkshire, and your chauffeur plans the most efficient route through each address before picking up everyone in turn.

The same arrangement applies for the journey home. Your driver collects the group from the pre-arranged pick-up point once play has finished, and drops each person home in sequence.

4. What if you want your driver to wait all day?

Not every Wimbledon booking is a straight there-and-back transfer. Some clients — particularly those attending on corporate hospitality tickets or debentures — want a driver who is available throughout the day and ready whenever they call. Others want the flexibility to stop somewhere on the way home: a restaurant in the village, a pub, or a hotel rather than going straight back to home.

Airport transfers: Heathrow direct to the All England Club

Guests arriving from overseas can be collected from Heathrow arrivals with meet-and-greet and luggage assistance, then transferred directly to a London hotel, Berkshire accommodation, or straight to the All England Club. Journey time from Heathrow to SW19 is typically 45 to 60 minutes, depending on traffic.
